My Foundation Line Up

So Ladies, today I wanted to show you all my foundation line-up and give you a little bit more information about what type of skin types and looks these products are best suited to. Before I went to beauty college I was pretty naïve to the world of makeup and I never even thought to take into consideration my skin type, what type of look I was trying to achieve or what kind of coverage I wanted when buying a foundation. I mostly went on recommendations from friends or bought products that were getting a bit of hype as most girlies do but since going to college I realise how important it is to ask yourself these questions before making a new purchase. Not even to make sure your makeup looks its best but just to keep your skin balanced and not provoke any dryness or oiliness you might have by using the wrong products.

Now I am still building my collection, at the moment its mostly mac products but I have so many more I am itching to try! As you know I do have mostly dry skin so most of my foundations are more suited to people with dry or normal skin.

MAC Studio Fix Fluid -  This was the first MAC foundation I purchased, it has good coverage and it's buildable aswell I find. I didn’t get this foundation in my everyday shade, I got it just a small bit darker. I bought it more as an occasion makeup for when I have tan on or I use it for my contour with a day makeup look. The one thing about it for me is because my skin is so dry sometimes it can look a bit flakey on as the foundation helps to control oil  so I would say it’s more suited to someone with a normal or oily skin type. I can only really wear it in small amounts like for a contour or if my skin is fairly settled. It has pretty good staying power aswell which is always a plus! This is perfect for when you want a good coverage look for the day without looking too caked. It’s easier to go more full coverage at night than it is during the day.

MAC Mineralize – I love this foundation. I do find it’s more of a day makeup as it has a pretty light coverage, it is slightly buildable but overall I just find it’s more suited to a natural day look. Because It’s part of the Mineralize range it’s a good fit for anyone who has dehydrated or slightly dry skin. It also gives a slightly glowey finish which I really like. Of course if you had a normal skin type you could use this product aswell, I just wouldn’t  recommend it to someone who had a very oily skin type as I don’t think it would stay in place. Also I find if I have spots the foundation alone isn’t enough to cover them but that isn’t really a big deal as most people would probably use concealer aswell anyway.

Inglot HD Perfect Cover Up – I actually have this foundation in an even darker shade than my studio fix. I got it mostly for when I’m going out at night and have a dark tan. It’s a brilliant foundation all round, it has good coverage, its buildable and it’s long lasting. It’s also really good at covering up any spots or redness. It’s the most expensive of all my foundation at 33 euro but it’s so worth it, I will soon be investing in a lighter shade so I can use it more often. It doesn’t really give a matte or a dewy finish it’s kind of somewhere in the middle but the finish is gorgeous. Of course again because of my dry skin sometimes it can be a bit problematic for me depending on my skin but it definitely doesn’t affect it as much as other products. Perfect for day or night full coverage looks.

Rimmel Wake Me Up -  This foundation is the cheapie of my group, I think it only cost me around €7 in a local pharmacy but I love it all the same. It’s contain Vitamin C which can prevent and treat UV damage so it’s really beneficial to your skin but it also helps give the foundation a very glowey finish. It has a pretty light coverage but I always find it looks really flattering. I use it for day makeup as it has a lovely natural finish. It would be suited more to people with dry or normal skin types or even someone with mature skin as I think it’s a very light-reflecting foundation which can be more flattering for a mature skin than other products. It’s really hard for me to fault this foundation, I really love it, every time I wear it I get asked about my foundation. Definitely a keeper!

MAC Prolongwear Nourishing Waterproof – And last but not least my current favourite. This foundation just suits me all round. It has a medium coverage but its buildable so I can wear it with a natural look for the day or a full coverage look at night which I love ! Not only does it nor irritate my dry skin, it actually nourishes it and that for me is just a winner. That’s always my biggest problem with my foundation but with this one I can wear it anytime and I know I’ll never have a problem. The fact that its long-lasting and waterproof is just really good plus! This foundation for me is just really true to the bottle. I can’t fault it. This again is more for a dry or normal skin type.

Hope I didn’t bore ye all to death! If anyone has tried any of these products I’d love to hear what ye think of them and as always if anyone has any questions for me just ask.

All my love,
SJL X

Sosu Lashes and Limited Edition Lash Case

Hello lovelies! This week I'm going to do the long awaited review of the Sosu Lashes I picked up and her new limited edition lash case. I've been trying out these lashes for months now and if you follow me on Instagram i'm sure you'll know they've made a few appearances there. I was a little late to catch on to the Sosueme trend, I actually didn't even try out her lashes until she released her 'Primark Exclusive' range and even then I only bought one pair in case I didn't like them.  I've never been much of a false lash person for the simple fact that I could not apply them, I literally could NOT do it. I either ended up with the lash stuck pretty much everywhere it shouldn't have been or couldn't get them to stick at all. The only false lashes I could apply myself were the Primark individual lashes so when I bought a pair of her 'Belle' lashes from Primark I wasn't very hopeful but I still wanted to see what all the hype...

Self Love...

In light of it being World Mental Health Awareness Day (October 10th) I wanted touch on one subject in particular that I have been trying to teach myself in recent months: SELF LOVE! In the past few years I have personally struggled with depression and anxiety and in order to help myself cope I use various coping mechanisms that I have picked up during the years. Over time I worked out what made me feel better and what triggered my anxiety so I was more capable of handling a problem should it arise but I wasn’t always able to do this on my own. I picked up several coping mechanisms through mindfulness groups and counselling, if those services weren’t available to me it would have been a lot harder for me to understand what exactly was happening within myself. One thing that you will always hear about in relation to mental health awareness will be self love. Self love is a very important part of the process in making yourself feel better or more able to cope. This was a concept...

Skincare - The Acids

Hello Lovelies! This week my blogpost is going to be based around skincare. If you read my Skincare 101 blog a couple of months ago you will know that I talked about cosmeceutical products, more specifically the differences between them and normal cosmetics. Cosmeceuticals are basically a mix of cosmetic and pharmaceutical products. They often contain ‘active’ ingredients which can penetrate into the deep layers of the skin therefore they are more beneficial to your skin than normal cosmetics you may find in a pharmacy or supermarket. Among the long list of ‘active’ ingredients you may find in cosmeceuticals, the word acid may come up quite frequently. Cosmeceuticals can contain one or more acid at a time such as glycolic acid, lactic acid or azelaic acid and so on. These are all ‘active’ ingredients as they penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and they all have different uses and benefits for different skin types. Products from brands such as Image Skincare, Nip and F...
