My Top 3 Primers

Hello lovelies! I'm back, yet again. I took a little break from my blog and social media recently but I'll be getting back on track with them in the coming weeks! I always miss being away from it!

Today I wanted to write about my top 3 primers! Primer is a vital part of your makeup, the smoother of a base you create for your makeup the better it will look and sit on the skin. The type of primer that best suits you will usually depend on your skin type, for example someone with oilier skin would be more suited to an oil absorbing matte primer than someone with dry skin who would probably be more suited to a hydrating cream primer. I also sometimes choose my primer depending on the effect I want for my makeup look or what foundation I'm using etc, so I will explain below exactly why I love my top 3 and what I use them for!

Mac Strobe Cream
I started with this one because it is probably the most popular out of the three. It is such a cult product in my opinion and rightly so. This primer is brilliant if you want to achieve a dewy makeup look, it adds such a gorgeous glow to the skin once applied. The texture of it is more like a light cream in comparison to a lot of primers which have a very velvety matte texture. Because of the texture being slightly creamier I would say it is more suited to a normal/dry skin type rather than oily, it has occasionally made me break out after daily/frequent use just because I have very oily skin. So to combat the breakouts I only use it when I want a very dewy look and I try to use an oil free or light matte foundation over it to avoid excess oil. I also find it doesn't conceal my open pores as well as I would like in areas where they are very prominent, this is another reason I feel it would be more suited to a dry/normal skin type as they are less likely to have excessive/prominent open pores. It retails at around 34 Euro and I have had my tube for ages so I think it is definitely worth the money! They also brought out new colour variations of it not so long ago so I will be picking one of those up for sure! Even though it's not ideal for my skin, I still really like it! Girl's gotta glow!

PUR Primer
This primer is a little gem I actually found in the Beauty Advent Calendar I got last year in M&S. I think I might have mentioned it before in a previous blog but it seriously deserves a second mention! I wasn't familiar with this brand at all before I tried the primer and since trying it I have been itching to try some more of their products! The primer leaves your skin feeling like pure silk creating the perfect makeup base. It looks like a cream upon first glance but once you start working it into the skin it creates a matte velvety feel and it is also extremely light on the skin which is why I love it for everyday use with my oily skin. It is paraben free, gluten free and vegan friendly which is a big yes in my book. I still have my little sample tube from the calendar, it has lasted me ages as you don't need much of it at all but I will definitely have to invest in a full-size one soon which retail for about 28 Euro online! This primer also conceals my open pores much better than the Mac Strobe Cream. I feel it would be a brilliant primer for anyone, except people with excessive dryness who would need something very moisturising. Basically I love it!

Benefit Porefessional Primer
Last but not least, the newest addition to my primer collection. Benefit is a brand I have really been looking into lately after trying this, they always have such quirky packaging and products which I love! There are plenty of products from them, old and new alike, which I am dying to try! I had heard lots of hype about the porefessional primer when it came out and it soon became a common favourite between beauty amateurs and professionals alike. I didn't buy it until late spring this year but once I tried it I understood why it was so popular. It is by far the best primer I have used in terms of concealing open pores, it completely fills in any open pores, fine lines, imperfections etc and gives you a silky smooth base to work on. The primer is totally matte and is extremely velvety to touch so it really suits my oily skin. I buff it on with a flat head brush and focus the majority of the product on my shiniest areas such as my nose, forehead and chin. While I don't find it heavy on the skin it isn't as lightweight as the PUR primer so I don't use it if I'm doing a very natural makeup look, for those looks I'll use the PUR primer. Instead I use it for heavier makeup looks because of its pore concealing and long-lasting abilities. This is also the primer I would wear if I was wearing an oilier foundation than my everyday one such as Mac Pro Longwear because it is super matte and I feel that in some way balances out the extra oil from the foundation, so I'm less likely to break out afterwards. It very quickly became one of my favourite primers, at the moment I use it nearly everytime I do my makeup! You don't need to use much product to get the desired effect which is always a plus and it retails for around 30 Euro a tube so it is quite reasonable. In my opinion it is an unreal primer and an absolute must have for anyone with oily skin or open pores. Same as the PUR primer, I feel it would be suitable for anyone except people with excessive dryness.

As you can see from my pictures along the way they are all a bit battered but that is always the sign of a truly loved product, or atleast that's what I tell myself! Also if you're like me and have several different primers with different textures and uses don't be afraid to mix and match! Sometimes I use the professional primer on my shiny/oily areas and then use the Mac strobe cream on areas that aren't so oily and need a glow such as my cheekbones, brow bones and the sides of my forehead so play around with your primers and see which suits you best!

I hope you have enjoyed this post today and have gotten some handy info or advice. Let me know if any of you have tried or even heard of any of these products and what you thought of them, I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'll be back to usual from now on with a new blog post every Wednesday so keep an eye out but until then enjoy your week and let me know if there is anything you would like me to write/talk about.

All my love,
SJL X

Sosu Lashes and Limited Edition Lash Case

Hello lovelies! This week I'm going to do the long awaited review of the Sosu Lashes I picked up and her new limited edition lash case. I've been trying out these lashes for months now and if you follow me on Instagram i'm sure you'll know they've made a few appearances there. I was a little late to catch on to the Sosueme trend, I actually didn't even try out her lashes until she released her 'Primark Exclusive' range and even then I only bought one pair in case I didn't like them.  I've never been much of a false lash person for the simple fact that I could not apply them, I literally could NOT do it. I either ended up with the lash stuck pretty much everywhere it shouldn't have been or couldn't get them to stick at all. The only false lashes I could apply myself were the Primark individual lashes so when I bought a pair of her 'Belle' lashes from Primark I wasn't very hopeful but I still wanted to see what all the hype...

Self Love...

In light of it being World Mental Health Awareness Day (October 10th) I wanted touch on one subject in particular that I have been trying to teach myself in recent months: SELF LOVE! In the past few years I have personally struggled with depression and anxiety and in order to help myself cope I use various coping mechanisms that I have picked up during the years. Over time I worked out what made me feel better and what triggered my anxiety so I was more capable of handling a problem should it arise but I wasn’t always able to do this on my own. I picked up several coping mechanisms through mindfulness groups and counselling, if those services weren’t available to me it would have been a lot harder for me to understand what exactly was happening within myself. One thing that you will always hear about in relation to mental health awareness will be self love. Self love is a very important part of the process in making yourself feel better or more able to cope. This was a concept...

Skincare - The Acids

Hello Lovelies! This week my blogpost is going to be based around skincare. If you read my Skincare 101 blog a couple of months ago you will know that I talked about cosmeceutical products, more specifically the differences between them and normal cosmetics. Cosmeceuticals are basically a mix of cosmetic and pharmaceutical products. They often contain ‘active’ ingredients which can penetrate into the deep layers of the skin therefore they are more beneficial to your skin than normal cosmetics you may find in a pharmacy or supermarket. Among the long list of ‘active’ ingredients you may find in cosmeceuticals, the word acid may come up quite frequently. Cosmeceuticals can contain one or more acid at a time such as glycolic acid, lactic acid or azelaic acid and so on. These are all ‘active’ ingredients as they penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and they all have different uses and benefits for different skin types. Products from brands such as Image Skincare, Nip and F...
