Skincare Basics - Normal Skin Type

Normal Skin
Hey there lovelies! I’m back again and this week I’m going to be speaking about what a ‘Normal’ skin type is and how you can look after it. Just because your skin type might be categorized as ‘Normal’ doesn’t mean you don’t have to look after it. This skin type is the most sought after but it’s not extremely common as most people would have at least one skin concern, however it is possible!

What Is A ‘Normal’ Skin Type?
Skin issues such as dryness, oiliness, and sensitivity are usually caused because the skin is missing and/or low in something it needs or it has too much of something. Having a normal skin type is basically a calm period for your skin when it has all it needs and shows it. Someone with ‘Normal’ skin will have no skin concerns so with your daily routine won’t be trying to regulate or enhance something, you’ll be trying to maintain the skin type for as long as you can. Always bare in mind though that even with a Normal skin type it is possible to suffer from occasional dry patches here and there or a spot every now and again. However if you suffer with any concerns on a very frequent basis, whether it be all over your face or in specific areas, you may want to re-examine your skin type. Once again this is why a professional opinion on your skin type is so important if you are unsure.

How Can I Identify A ‘Normal’ Skin Type?
  • Even Skin Tone
  • No Dryness/ Excess oil
  • No Redness
  • No Fine Lines/ Wrinkles
  • No Pigmentation/ Signs Of Sun Damage
*Always note that you may experience these symptoms on some parts of your face and not others, which means you may have a combination skin type!*

How Should I Look After My ‘Normal’ Skin?
  • Cleanse the skin twice daily, morning and night, after makeup removal. Here are some cleansers I like for a Normal skin type:

  • Use a moisturiser, morning and night, containing anti-oxidants to protect your skin from the environment. Here are some I think are suitable:
  • Exfoliate once a week but don’t use a very abrasive scrub. If you have a normal skin type you can also use both conventional scrub exfoliators and AHA/BHA exfoliators. You can read more about AHA and BHA exfoliators in my previous blogpost 'Basic Skincare Regime" in the exfoliator section! For now though, here are some I think are suitable:
  • Wear SPF daily to prevent pigmentation and sun damage. This step is key in all skincare routines!
  • Avoid skin-aggravating ingredients such as polyvinyl alcohol, fragrances etc., alongside drying products/ingredients.
  • Use a suitable mask once a week. When it comes to normal skin types you have a bit more freedom with the masks you can use. For example if one week your skin feels a little tighter than usual, you can use a hydrating mask or if it feels a bit oilier another week you can use a clay/oil regulating mask. Not all skin types have this freedom so enjoy it! For now here are some I like for Normal skin types:

What Ingredients Will Benefit My ‘Normal’ Skin?
Here are some of my favourite ingredients for a 'Normal' skin type:
  • Hyaluronic Acid – This ingredient is beneficial for nearly all skin types as it helps to draw moisture to the skin aiding in hydration.
  • Anti-oxidants – These are so important to protect your skin from free radicals.
  • Glycolic Acid - This ingredient has small molecules so it penetrates deep into the skin and helps to remove dead skin cells to brighten your complexion.
  • Vitiman A – This ingredient is beneficial for nearly every skin type and does countless things for your skin such as protecting its outer layer, provides anti-ageing properties, supports skin’s immune system etc.
  • Vitiman E – This is a natural anti-oxidant and it helps to hydrate the skin.
Always remember though that what works for someone else may not always work for you so always do your research before buying products! All of the products I have pictured here today are from www.beautybay.com solely because it is my favourite website to buy products off. If you click any of the pictures it should bring you to that product on their website incase you want to get more information about them.

Also don’t forget to use this blogpost in conjunction with my "Basis Skincare Regime" blogpost to keep your skin in optimal condition! I’ll be back next week to talk all about Oily skin! I hope you enjoyed this blogpost and got some useful information from it! As always if you have any questions just ask!

All my love,
SJL X

Sosu Lashes and Limited Edition Lash Case

Hello lovelies! This week I'm going to do the long awaited review of the Sosu Lashes I picked up and her new limited edition lash case. I've been trying out these lashes for months now and if you follow me on Instagram i'm sure you'll know they've made a few appearances there. I was a little late to catch on to the Sosueme trend, I actually didn't even try out her lashes until she released her 'Primark Exclusive' range and even then I only bought one pair in case I didn't like them.  I've never been much of a false lash person for the simple fact that I could not apply them, I literally could NOT do it. I either ended up with the lash stuck pretty much everywhere it shouldn't have been or couldn't get them to stick at all. The only false lashes I could apply myself were the Primark individual lashes so when I bought a pair of her 'Belle' lashes from Primark I wasn't very hopeful but I still wanted to see what all the hype...

Self Love...

In light of it being World Mental Health Awareness Day (October 10th) I wanted touch on one subject in particular that I have been trying to teach myself in recent months: SELF LOVE! In the past few years I have personally struggled with depression and anxiety and in order to help myself cope I use various coping mechanisms that I have picked up during the years. Over time I worked out what made me feel better and what triggered my anxiety so I was more capable of handling a problem should it arise but I wasn’t always able to do this on my own. I picked up several coping mechanisms through mindfulness groups and counselling, if those services weren’t available to me it would have been a lot harder for me to understand what exactly was happening within myself. One thing that you will always hear about in relation to mental health awareness will be self love. Self love is a very important part of the process in making yourself feel better or more able to cope. This was a concept...

Skincare - The Acids

Hello Lovelies! This week my blogpost is going to be based around skincare. If you read my Skincare 101 blog a couple of months ago you will know that I talked about cosmeceutical products, more specifically the differences between them and normal cosmetics. Cosmeceuticals are basically a mix of cosmetic and pharmaceutical products. They often contain ‘active’ ingredients which can penetrate into the deep layers of the skin therefore they are more beneficial to your skin than normal cosmetics you may find in a pharmacy or supermarket. Among the long list of ‘active’ ingredients you may find in cosmeceuticals, the word acid may come up quite frequently. Cosmeceuticals can contain one or more acid at a time such as glycolic acid, lactic acid or azelaic acid and so on. These are all ‘active’ ingredients as they penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and they all have different uses and benefits for different skin types. Products from brands such as Image Skincare, Nip and F...
