Skinny Tan Products Review

Hello Lovelies! Im back again this week with another product review! Skinny Tan is a tanning range I first became aware of in and around last September. I had never heard about it before and one of my relatives in London was using it and loved it so I decided to give it a try. Since buying my first product with them, which was a Mousse Self Tan in Dark, my collection of their products has just continued to grow! They don't seem to be very well known in Ireland at the moment and I would love to change that so I wanted to give you all some information about some of their products! They have a huge range of products including everything from gradual tanners to tanning oils and everything in between. So here is how I got on with all of the products I have!

  • Professional Barrier Cream - This product in my opinion is a must have for any tan lover. It helps to stop tan sticking to dry/unwanted areas such as your elbows, ankles and hands etc. You can put it anywhere that you usually find you suffer from a build up of tan to help lessen the problem. You just apply a small amount of it to the areas where you feel you need it before you apply your tan and it stops the tan sticking to them. You can of course use just a normal moisturiser for this if you wanted but the trick is to make sure it doesn't contain too much oil as the oil in them can sometimes mess with your final result. That's why I prefer to use barrier creams for this as they are specifically made for the task at hand! This particular cream is paraben free, consists of a natural base and it smells delicious! It has a gorgeous coconut scent!

  • After Glow Gloss - This product is used as your daily moisturiser to keep your skin smooth and hydrated while extending the life of your tan. For trial purposes I used this product religiously the first time I used their tan and it definitely does what it says on the bottle. It kept my skin in really good condition and helped the tan to fade perfectly. It also gave my skin a beautiful glow as it is very glossy. However it wasn't my favourite product in the world purely because it is very oily and like a lot of oils it was slightly sticky for the first few minutes after application. This however is purely just personal preference, it is a brilliant product but I'm just not a fan of oils, I rather a normal moisturiser. So if you're like me it probably won't be your cup of tea either however if you don't mind oils or better yet love them then this product will be your holy grail!

  •  1 Hour Express Mousse - This is the star of the show in my product line up! I absolutely LOVE this tan! Since I bought it I haven't used any other tan which is rare for me as I usually mix and match. It contains ingredients to help smooth and firm the skin, it is paraben free, sulphate free and it isn't tested on animals! This is the dark version of this tan. The instructions say to leave it on for 1 hour for a medium tan, 2-3 hours for a medium to dark tan or overnight for the Deepest, Darkest Skinny Tan ever. Of course as I usually do I left it on overnight. It has a lovely guide colour so you can easily see where you're placing your tan and if you needed to you could run into the shops or a meeting after applying it without looking like an Oompa Loompa! I did my usual exfoliating routine beforehand and applied it to clean skin directly after showering and placing the barrier cream where I needed it. I also use a little makeup brush rather than a mitt to apply it to my hands and feet to avoid overloading them with tan. I've used this tan so many times now and I always wake up the next morning with a beautiful even coverage of the tan and I love the colour of it which you can see in the pictures below. I'm sorry I don't have any proper before and after pictures, I'm a disaster but below I have placed a picture of me as my usual pale self, one of me wearing a fresh layer of the tan and one of my legs about 3-4 days after tan application to show how it wears. I honestly can't fault it, it's my favourite tan! I maintain it by showering and moisturising daily while I'm wearing it to ensure even wear off because as we all know with any tan, aftercare is key! Like probably ever other tan out there I have found if I neglect my aftercare it can go a bit patchy in dry areas but I don't mind that at all because as I've said that will almost definitely happen with any tan. There is also no unpleasant tan smell from it. So for me this is my go to tanner!

  • Tan and Tone Oil - This is the last product I'm going to speak about today! It is the newest Skinny Tan Product in my line up! I haven't got to use this product on it's own yet so I can't tell you how it preforms alone but I used it to extend the life of my mousse. The last time I used my mousse when I got to maybe day 6-7 I topped up my tan using this to see what would happen. I just expected it to deepen my tan up again a tiny bit and keep it going for a few extra days however it exceeded my expectations. I treated it just like a normal tanner so I showered beforehand and applied my barrier cream before applying it. I then waited about 10 minutes before getting dressed and left it on overnight. The next morning my tan was much darker again and it looked so fresh! Much like the mousse it came out very even, made my skin feel silky smooth and it gave me a lovely boost of colour again. You don't have to shower off any excess the morning after either unlike the mousse which made it really handy to use. I really liked this product and I would definitely use it on it's own after my experience with it over the mousse. Also as I mentioned above I really don't like oils at all but I loved this one! It wasn't sticky at all and it dried down into my skin within minutes so I was super impressed. When used alone it is supposed to provide a natural looking medium tan and just like the mousse it is paraben free, doesn't contain any drying chemicals and it isn't tested on animals so it's a winner if you ask me! Again I unfortunately I don't have any proper before and after pictures but I have popped in a photo of me below the day after using it and you can see on my chest, face and arms how fresh my tan looks again. It also has a gorgeous scent to it, I think it's coconut as well but don't hold me to that as I'm desperate with scents!

And so that concludes my Skinny Tan Review. As you can see I have really enjoyed the majority of their products that I own and I will definitely be picking up some more to test out. If you have tried their products let me know what you thought of them, I always love to hear ye're opinions! I will be back soon with a blogpost about my first trimester of pregnancy but until then I hope you all have a brilliant week and hopefully enjoy this blogpost! Also if there is anything in particular you would like me to review or blog about just let me know!

All my love,
SJL X

Sosu Lashes and Limited Edition Lash Case

Hello lovelies! This week I'm going to do the long awaited review of the Sosu Lashes I picked up and her new limited edition lash case. I've been trying out these lashes for months now and if you follow me on Instagram i'm sure you'll know they've made a few appearances there. I was a little late to catch on to the Sosueme trend, I actually didn't even try out her lashes until she released her 'Primark Exclusive' range and even then I only bought one pair in case I didn't like them.  I've never been much of a false lash person for the simple fact that I could not apply them, I literally could NOT do it. I either ended up with the lash stuck pretty much everywhere it shouldn't have been or couldn't get them to stick at all. The only false lashes I could apply myself were the Primark individual lashes so when I bought a pair of her 'Belle' lashes from Primark I wasn't very hopeful but I still wanted to see what all the hype...

Self Love...

In light of it being World Mental Health Awareness Day (October 10th) I wanted touch on one subject in particular that I have been trying to teach myself in recent months: SELF LOVE! In the past few years I have personally struggled with depression and anxiety and in order to help myself cope I use various coping mechanisms that I have picked up during the years. Over time I worked out what made me feel better and what triggered my anxiety so I was more capable of handling a problem should it arise but I wasn’t always able to do this on my own. I picked up several coping mechanisms through mindfulness groups and counselling, if those services weren’t available to me it would have been a lot harder for me to understand what exactly was happening within myself. One thing that you will always hear about in relation to mental health awareness will be self love. Self love is a very important part of the process in making yourself feel better or more able to cope. This was a concept...

Skincare - The Acids

Hello Lovelies! This week my blogpost is going to be based around skincare. If you read my Skincare 101 blog a couple of months ago you will know that I talked about cosmeceutical products, more specifically the differences between them and normal cosmetics. Cosmeceuticals are basically a mix of cosmetic and pharmaceutical products. They often contain ‘active’ ingredients which can penetrate into the deep layers of the skin therefore they are more beneficial to your skin than normal cosmetics you may find in a pharmacy or supermarket. Among the long list of ‘active’ ingredients you may find in cosmeceuticals, the word acid may come up quite frequently. Cosmeceuticals can contain one or more acid at a time such as glycolic acid, lactic acid or azelaic acid and so on. These are all ‘active’ ingredients as they penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and they all have different uses and benefits for different skin types. Products from brands such as Image Skincare, Nip and F...
